RSS user guide

RSS enables users to keep up with the latest new content on websites that provide information in this format, e.g. B+B Vorsorge AG, Profond, Allvor, etc.

You can decide yourself which feeds you want to sign up for (or unsubscribe) and when you want to read the latest information from each. This service is usually entirely free and anonymous, and it does not send messages to your e-mail inbox.

To receive and start using RSS feeds, you need to copy the RSS address(es) from the website that is of interest to you, usually marked with the /files/images/ueber-uns/feedicons-standard/feed-icon-12x12.png, symbol, into a program called a feed reader. The program then informs users in real time of new content and displays the relevant headlines and texts together with links to the full articles.

Registration

RSS reader programs are already built into the latest versions of browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari; they also allow readers to use familiar features such as bookmarks and favourites. And it couldn't be simpler to set up:

Internet Explorer 7

  1. Click on the orange /files/images/ueber-uns/feedicons-standard/feed-icon-12x12.png RSS feed symbol next to the Home icon in the browser to select an RSS feed. You will then be directed to an overview of the feeds available. Alternatively, you can use the link at the very top of this overview page to register.
  2. Simply click on "Subscribe to feed" in the header.
  3. In order to access the feed at any time, click on "Favourites" from the menu and then on "Feeds". You will then be shown a list of all the feeds to which you have subscribed and you can simply click on the one you wish to access.

Firefox 2.0

  1. Click on the orange /files/images/ueber-uns/feedicons-standard/feed-icon-12x12.png RSS feed symbol in the address line of the browser to select an RSS feed. You will then be directed to an overview of the feeds available. Alternatively, you can use the link at the very top of this overview page to select a feed.
  2. In the header of the overview, click on "Subscribe to this feed using Live Bookmarks". If you want to use a Firefox extension such as Sage, Brief or WizzRSS, save the live bookmark in the corresponding bookmark folder used by this extension.
  3. In order to access the feed at any time, you can either click on the corresponding entry in your Bookmarks or start the extension you have chosen for your browser.

Alternative: feed reader programs

As an alternative to browser extensions, you can also install browser-independent reader programs such as
